A Little Catch Up

A Little Catch Up

Well it’s been a hot minute, I got to thinking “when was the last time I posted here?” and turns out it was two months ago.

To be fair, I’ve been embroiled in a few events I’ve been organizing for a local non-profit, which has been very satisfying, but a hell of a lot of work. People don’t volunteer as much anymore, so we were short “staffed” and had me doing a lot of the work involved. Most of it really. From scratch because the group had become very moribund the past 10 or so years at least. Anyway, that’s what’s been keeping me busy!

So busy in fact, my sewing table was taken over by supplies for said events, so projects in that realm were stalled for a bit.

I have been working on a few zines with a co-conspirator. And Project: Camera Release came home in October and my god, all the photographs worked! From a camera that was about 20 years old. I actually cracked the case and salvaged the body, because I couldn’t bear to give up my very last Konica Minolta C-41 black and white disposable.

A few of us also began a small quilt exchange, which I dubbed QuiltX. Because I’m a serial website maker, I started a small site for that here.

And I’m firmly in present making territory for Christmas, although I am not in fact making a quilt for anybody this year (besides the above small wall quilt). I will also be making a Christmas bunting (just ‘cuz), some knitted ornaments (currently about half way through), a stuffie for my kid in what is now a Christmas tradition (started before she was even born), and a few other things I’m sure I’m forgetting. I have a little check list.

My kid has been super into Christmas this year already. You never quite know what they’re going to remember, but I suppose is made a really big impact on her 1.5 year old brain last year, and she’s been itching for it since before Halloween. So we’re all very much in the mood to bring on the cheer this year. Not that I’m one of those people that doesn’t like Christmas, I do, but she has been into it and it’s delightful to watch that in a toddler.

Here is something I can show though, a little Entrechat for the aforementioned toddler to go with her Christmas dress. The dress is adorable, but sleeveless, and we are in winter here in the prairies, so I made a little something to go over it. This is definitely a nice, quick knit, even in a fingering weight. All I have right now is this crappy photo taken with my cell in low light, but there you have it!

I used about 252 yds of fingering weight yarn for the 2 yo size, which is just about right. I have cones of Brown Sheep Nature Spun Fingering, and that turned out to be a great yarn for this pattern.

I did also make a wee Korn for her as well. I used it as a template basically, and didn’t bother with the brioche patterning. I had gotten some Blacker Yarns Bam-Boozle, and while it’s meant for socks, didn’t feel like a realistic sock yarn (very drapey, quite delicate). But it made a perfect sweater!

I did a 4 x 2 stripe, and I carried the yarns down the back as I went to make my life a lot easier in the finishing. I used 323 yds of the coral, and 231 yds of the teal. This is actually knit in the 4 year old size, so it’s baggy on her but not uncomfortably so. I’m hoping it’ll actually last a few years.
